TTL - Tromsø Telemedicine Laboratory

In 2006, The Research Council of Norway chose Tromsø Telemedicine Laboratory as one of 14 centres for research-based innovation.

Accordingly, The Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine (NST) has established a strong technological community, designed to strengthen innovation through long-term research.

The research will be done in close cooperation with research-intensive businesses and outstanding research communities, both in Norway and internationally. Research results from Tromsø Telemedicine Laboratory will provide the basis for new businesses and products within health and ICT, covering a growing global demand.

During its 15 years of existence, The Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine has gained extensive competence and experience in using technology for health purposes. Several businesses have developed as spin-offs from the NST.

Personalised health goes mobile

The future of healthcare technology has no wires. Researchers at Norut and TTL have proven that point by creating a wireless system for personalised health care.

Collaboration in all directions

The health sector is complex. This makes it challenging to create new systems that will meet the needs of doctors, nurses, bioengineers, and secretaries. Streamlining and improving this process is the aim of research to be conducted by Liv Karen Johannessen at Well Diagnostics.

PhD study at NST and TTL:

Better design for better health

It is 2008, and the job market has become truly international. Take Naoe Tatara, for example. She recently moved halfway across the world to work at NST and Tromsø Telemedcine Laboratory to improve the user interface of electronic self-help tools.

Incentive award to TTL researchers

Two researchers from the Tromsø Telemedicine Laboratory have won an incentive award for a research project which may result in an important tool for identifying melanoma at an early stage.

Go-ahead for SFI:

Research for the future

- Millions of kroner in State research funds will create new enterprises, products and services. We expect that the SFI centres will become so strong that they change the research landscape and result in important ties with international research communities.
