EHT Workshop MIE Conference 26 May 2008

Towards a European Network on e-health consumer trends

The workshop was organised during the Medical Informatics Europe (MIE) Conference in Gothenburg, Sweden 25-28 May. The aim of the workshop was to develop a platform for eHealth trends research from a citizens’ point of view. The network will focus on citizens’ use of the Internet for health purposes and its implications. The empowerment of patients, the digital divide within Europe and within population groups and confidentiality are some areas of interest for future surveys and research.

A total op 24 people attended the workshop and introduced themselves. There were participants from Europe (EU member- and non-member-states), the US, Australia and New Zealand. Except for Denmark and Latvia, the other five partners attended the workshop.

• The NST will approach a European body to include the major questions – e.g. European household survey, Eurobarometer.
• The NST will host an open website for eHealth consumer trends surveys using the exisiting eHealth Trends website, www.telemed.no/eHealthtrends The main purpose of the website will be to provide a dissemination channel for future surveys, policy and research in this field
• The questionnaire will be published with the paper on the 2007-survey results. The NST will make the questionnaire available at the new website.
• Any joint future surveys will need to establish an agreement as this project with the commitment from each partner is ending by 1 June 2008.
• Ownership and use of dataset: The database will be published and open for anyone to use after all compulsory papers have been published, but in any case no later than 1 June 2009.
