The Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine Designated World Health Organization Collaborating Centre
The World Health Organizations (WHO) designation of the Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine (NST) as its first Collaborating Centre for Telemedicine is a recognition of the potential benefits of telemedicine for global health and of the value of NSTs competence and experience in this field.
As a WHO Collaborating Centre, NST will take on new challenges. It will assist WHO in establishing telemedicine services in its member states. Other important responsibilities will be the conduct of research on telemedicine and the communication of knowledge about the social impact of telemedicine.

The NST is now part of an international collaborative network carrying out activities in support of WHO programmes at all levels. The NST is associated with the WHO s headquarters in Geneva and with the regional office for Europe in Denmark. The designation of the centre will be effective for a period of four years. Ms Tove Sørensen, who has acted as the NSTs WHO liaison person throughout the designation process, will head the Collaborating Centre.
