The Constellation for AIDS competence: Global learning for local impact

The project ‘Global Learning for Local Impact’ is a joint collaboration between the Constellation for AIDS Competence (‘Constellation’) and the Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine (NST).

The project will combine local, mutual training with a wide range of online tools for learning, communicating, and sharing in order to respond with quality to the increasing demand of qualified coaches. It will enable the Constellation to capture new knowledge and know-how more efficiently and to connect local responses around the world.

Background

Twenty years into the HIV/AIDS pandemic, global experiences reveal that local responses are a critical factor to achieve progress. Only if people own the issue and the response to HIV/AIDS will the current efforts towards universal access to HIV-prevention, treatment, care and support succeed. The Constellation is proposing a process (‘AIDS Competence Process’) which is fostering local responses to HIV/AIDS and the exchange of lessons across the globe through an international network of coaches.

Facilitating the Aids Competence Process needs substantial practice and individual capacities will grow while the facilitator gains more experience. Currently Aids Competence facilitators (coaches) are trained at live sessions while teaming up with an experienced coach.

In order to scale up the training as well as to ensure that the quality of the process and the training is preserved, there is a need for a more systematic and structured approach.

Due to the nature of the Constellation as an international NGO working in many countries at the same time and having coaches spread throughout the world, a blended learning approach has been chosen, which focus on combining real life exercises in communities with online knowledge building, sharing and guiding from more experienced coaches.

Project description

The project started on 1 December 2007 and will be finalised by 31 December 2009. The Constellation will deliver the online material for the Blended learning programme. The NST will provide the technical platform for the project, as well as support and consulting for the content developers.

The aim of the project is to strengthen the Constellation for AIDS Competence by improving the training of coaching teams, in terms of quality of the training and number of coaches trained.

The project is organized in two phases. In phase 1 the first version of the course will be developed.

By 1 August 2008 all modules will be ready for testing. Based on the feedback from the test groups the project will refine and finish the first version of the course.

In phase 2 the course will be translated into French and Spanish. The course will then be launched as a public offer. Furthermore the platform will be used as an intranet for the coaches group of the constellation. Here they have access to each others activities and as discussion forum.
