Telenor R&I

Telenor has taken a leading role in providing advanced communication solutions for hospitals, and counts on strengthening its position within health by taking part in the CRI, which has potential for developing innovative solutions for both mobile and fixed data communication networks.

With the proliferation of mobile phones, the mobile network has arguably become the best-suited network for exchange of health related information between the health worker and service providers.

The primary reason for this is that users always carry their mobile phones with them, and that mobile phones are considered as the personal communication means.

In order to capitalize on this possibility, development on both the user terminal and service ends are necessary, as well as the means to manage these solutions remotely. This CRI will help bring that development about.

Furthermore, Telenor is engaged in fixed and wireless Internet provisioning both as an ISP and a provider of broadband on the xDSL, cable platforms and wireless, and is highly interested in testing and providing new broadband based services for the health sector. Personal sensor networks through home-based and mobile phone network are both at the core to this CRI, fits well with this strategy.
