Project title: Context sensitive systems for mobile communication in hospitals
Supervisors: Professor Gunnar Hartvigsen, Institute of Informatics, University of Tromsø, and Dr. Jeremiah Scholl, Norwegian Center of Telemedisine

Project description:

The primary research problem targeted in this project is how to design a context-sensitive system for multi-modal mobile communication in hospitals. Such a system will support media such as text, voice and paging services while maximizing efficiency of communication and effectively managing interruptions.

The secondary research problems associated with this primary research problem are listed below:
  • Algorithms and Heuristics for modelling interruptibility in hospitals
  • Interaction forms for interruptibility management systems
  • Interfaces for mobile-text messaging with acknowledgement and requested reply
  • Middleware for role-based contact in multi-modal communication services
  • Interaction forms for switching work roles associated with a device
  • Privacy and security aspects of mobile communication in hospitals
