
Methodology - 2005 survey
The
questionnaire was developed in English by the consortium, and then translated
into the national languages using a "dual focus approach" (Erkut et
al 1999). The dual focus approach is also called translation for meaning. The
procedure consisted of two steps; 1) Gathering two bi - lingual translators (English
- national language), and at least two project participants in a group
discussing the translation of the questionnaire question by question, and 2) Running pilot
interviews in a local focus group in each country.
National Poll Agencies were engaged to make the samples and conduct the
interviews. Approximately 1000 respondents from each country were selected,
