Local Medical Centres with Decentralised Specialist Services and Telemedicine

The aim of the project is to create a relevant model, also with respect to certain categories of patients, who are in special need of cooperation between the two organisational levels in the health care system.

The main question in this project is whether telemedicine services may be useful tools in a centre that provides cooperation between the primary health care services and the specialist health care services in the Norwegian public health care system. The aim of the project is to create a relevant model, also with respect to certain categories of patients, who are in special need of cooperation between the two organisational levels in the health care system. The purpose of the model will be to enforce the quality and the accessibility of the health care system and to contribute to cost-effectiveness of the system. The project is to identify possibilities, profits, needs and challenges in connection with decentralisation of the specialist services of the system by the means of certain telemedicine services in a local medical centre. The main purpose is to focus relevant organisational, economical, technological and quality aspects that arise by introducing this model in the health care system.

Project period

July 2002 - March 2003.
