Invitation for the press
We want to raise a debate. That is why The Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine has made health services for the elderly the theme of this years telemedicine conference in June 2007. The grey wave is approaching. But do we care?

The title “Elderly – Who Cares?” was chosen to challenge people and make them conscious of this challenge. How do we care for the elderly today. And what about the future?
We would like to welcome you to the conference in Tromsø 11-13 June!
Researchers believe that new technology, such as telemedicine, nano- and sensor technology is a necessary key to reducing the effects of a vast shortage of health personnel.
During the telemedicine conference in Tromsø from the 11-13 June, there will be debates and an exchange of experiences with telemedicine, regardless of geography and areas of research.
The conference presents a wide range of technological possibilities, that can be used to meet the challenge of an increasing number of elderly people, who need health care and want to age in a dignified manner.
Themes for TTeC 2007:
• Driving forces behind technological and organisational changes
• Active aging and ICT
• eHealth applications in elderly care
Meeting point Tromsø
So far, health personnel, researchers and industrial leaders from 20 countries have signed up for this years’ event, which includes 4 Workshops, 2 Tutorials and a three-day conference.
This “shower of knowledge” has developed from an arena where research results were merely communicated, to an annual meeting point, that includes presentations and scientific news, as well as seminars and courses. So far, more than 200 participants have announced their arrival in Tromsø.
From municipal modernisation to smarthouse
There is a vast span in themes this year. For example, we are dealing with home-based telemedical solutions – or smarthouse technology – and the possibility for assisting patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by using a tv and a remote control.
Researches will also present results from studies in other European countries, among them a study where aging people in various European countries were asked about their expectations for future health care for the elderly. Please download

Facts about TTeC 2007:
Tromsø Telemedicine and eHealth Conference takes place from 11-13 June 2007. This is the seventh time The Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine arranges the conference, that gathers hundreds of participants from 20 countries for three whole days. This year, we focus on new and untraditional ways to increase the efficiency of the health services and reduce the impact, when the “Grey Wave” becomes a reality, a few years from now.
