Tutorials (click on titles for more information):
1. Is Futures Research possible? Scenario building as research activity
Foresight, and especially scenario building, is usually considered helpful in strategic reasoning, research processes and policy development. The status of futures literacy, however, is both undefined and under-communicated as part of a scientific research process itself. The tutorial will invite the participants to discuss some important issues, after they have been presented with the core idea of foresight and scenario building approaches.
Instructor: Erik F. Øverland, Director SUBITO! Research&Futures, Oslo, Norway. Futurist and foresight expert
2. Futures Methodologies and Management
Introduction to future methodologies such as environmental scanning, trend research, Delphi study, scenario planning, wild card and strategy development. For those who want to be able to recognise future opportunities in order to improve the competitiveness of their organisation.
Instructor: Kaat Exterbille, Managing Director Kate Thomas & Kleyn, Brussels, Belgium. Futurist and management consultant
3. New Public Management Reforms in Healthcare. Lessons from reform experiences in the Nordic countries
An introduction to the concept of New Public Management, showing the significance of NPM-inspired reforms after their introduction in Nordic health care systems.
Dag Olaf Torjesen, Associate Professor, Agder University College and Ph.D student at Stein Rokkan Centre for Social Studies
Morten Brattvoll, Political Scientist / Chief Consultant, Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine
4. Health Informatics
The tutorial covers main issues in health informatics, including standards, ICT in health care, medical computing applications, and future directions of health informatics. The emphasis will be on applications in telemedicine. The tutorial is intended for people with a basic understanding of ICT. The goal is to give the attendees a basic overview of the field of health informatics /medical informatics.
