Pre-Conference Tutorials

TTeC 2006 offers four pre-conference tutorials on Monday, June 12, 2006. Tutorials are short instruction courses in a particular area; in this case, areas related to the main themes of Telemedicine and eHealth Beyond Tomorrow. The tutorials given are taught by scientists and consultants within the field of healthcare and methodology approaches. Registrated TTeC participants who are interested in learning more about one of the described methodologies or research domains are invited to take part.

All tutorials are scheduled on Monday morning (parallel).
Each tutorial will last 3 to 4 hours.
Participation only through registration; please use the conference registration form (one tutorial only).
Each tutorial will have a maximum of 20 persons.
Price for participation is 1000 NOK per person (500 NOK for students).

1. Is Futures Research possible? Scenario building as research activity
Foresight, and especially scenario building, is usually considered helpful in strategic reasoning, research processes and policy development. The status of futures literacy, however, is both undefined and under-communicated as part of a scientific research process itself. The tutorial will invite the participants to discuss some important issues, after they have been presented with the core idea of foresight and scenario building approaches.

2. Futures Methodologies and Management
Introduction to future methodologies such as environmental scanning, trend research, Delphi study, scenario planning, wild card and strategy development. For those who want to be able to recognise future opportunities in order to improve the competitiveness of their organisation.

3. New Public Management Reforms in Healthcare. Lessons from reform experiences in the Nordic countries
An introduction to the concept of New Public Management, showing the significance of NPM-inspired reforms after their introduction in Nordic health care systems.

4. Health Informatics
The tutorial covers main issues in health informatics, including standards, ICT in health care, medical computing applications, and future directions of health informatics. The emphasis will be on applications in telemedicine. The tutorial is intended for people with a basic understanding of ICT. The goal is to give the attendees a basic overview of the field of health informatics /medical informatics.
