The workshop was organised during the Tromso Telmedicine and eHealth Conference, Norway, 9-11 June 2008. The aim of the workshop was to develop a network for eHealth trends research from a citizens’ point of view. The network will focus on citizens’ use of the Internet for health purposes and its implications. The empowerment of patients, the digital divide within Europe and within population groups and confidentiality are some areas of interest for future surveys and research.

The aim of the workshop was to develop a platform for eHealth trends research from a citizens’ point of view. The network will focus on citizens’ use of the Internet for health purposes and its implications. The empowerment of patients, the digital divide within Europe and within population groups and confidentiality are some areas of interest for future surveys and research.

eHealth 2008 conference 'eHealth without frontiers'
The project was presented on the eHealth 2008 high level conference 'eHealth without Frontiers' in Portoroz, Slovenia. The session 'Patient centredness and health professionals' took place on Wednesday 7 May and was chaired by Mr Artur Furtado, DG Sanco.

List of Publications
The eHealth Trends project has delivered a range of 16 scientific papers. The minimum requirements were 16, one per country and one joint paper from each survey. eHealth trends across Europe 2005-2007
The report presents the results from the 2007 eHealth Trends survey. The number of Internet health users increased from 44 % in 2005 to 54 % in 2007. The growth in the use of Internet for health purposes is found in all seven countries participating in the survey. The use of the Internet for health purposes is increasing in Europe. The project is co-funded by the Program of Community action in the field of Public Health (2003-2008) of the Health and Consumer Protection Directorate-General of the European Commission.

Pressbriefing eHealth Trends 2005-2007
During the open session of the 4th eHealth Trends workshop in Aveiro, Portugal, an overview of the project results was presented. The use of the Internet for health purposes is increasing in all countries included in the study. There is a digital divide in Europe: Internet use is more frequent in northern and central Europe, followed by eastern and southern Europe respectively. The digital divide is influencing the use of e-health Health related use of the Internet: The divide seems to be diminishing as relative growth in e-health is larger in southern Europe. eHealth trends workshop: Aveiro, Portugal 5-6 July 2007
The 4th project workshop will be organized in collaboration with the Portuguese partner, University of Aveiro/ IEETA, at the University of Aveiro in Portugal, 5-6 July 2007. The aim of the workshop is to analyze and discuss the results from the second eHealth trends survey, conducted in April/ May this year. European citizens' use of E-health services: A study of seven countries
The international study was published on 10 April. The Internet is used more for health purposes in the northern European countries (74 % of Internet users), followed by the eastern (72 %) and southern European countries (60 %). Plans for the next European survey
The second and last survey of the project will start on 16 April this year and last for two weeks. The same questions will be asked to a total of 1000 respondents in each country on their use of the Internet for health purposes.Wroclaw, 29-30 January 2007
The third e-health Trends workshop took place in Wroclaw, Poland, on January 29-30 2007. The major topics were to summarize and discuss the results from the 1st survey which was conducted in 2005, and to plan the 2nd survey which is scheduled for April 2007. The first part was open to the public.

Danish-Norwegian Workshop on eHealth Consumer Trends
In connection with the TTeC2006 Conference, the Danish and Norwegian partners organized a joint workshop to present similarities and differences in the results from the Danish and Norwegian population. The aim of the workshop was to discuss future actions, the content of the survey and its implications with the key stake holders: policy-makers, health care authorities, researchers and users. Status of the project after the first year
After the first year, the eHealth Trends project is running as planned. The results of the surveys support the trends we find across Europe with people using the Internet for health along with other means of communication. As the papers are in the evaluation phase of the journals, the results have not yet been published in full.Read more

National Poll Agencies made representative samples from the 7 participating countries, Greece, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Denmark and Norway. The respondents were interviewed over the telephone.Read more...

National Translation Workshops completed
The questionnaire for the eHealth Trends project has been developed jointly by the project participants. As it is developed in English, the questions have been translated into the national languages using a dual focus method ("translation for meaning").
