The results from the second Danish survey has been published in “Ugeskrift for Læger” which is the weekly Journal of the Danish Medical Association and is distributed to and read by all nearly employees and decision-makers in the Danish healthcare sector.

Use of the Internet for health purposes is growing in all age groups and for both men and women, with especially strong growth among young women. The eHealth Trends poster was presented at the 11th European Health Forum Gasteinin Austria 1-4 October 2008. The conference was located in the beautiful Alps of Bad Gastein, had participants from all over Europe as well as some other countries. E-health was one of the topics discussed during the conference.

The empowerment of patients, the digital divide within Europe and within population groups and confidentiality are some areas of interest for future surveys and research.

Paper from the Polish 2007 survey has been published
The full paper from the 2007 survey in Poland was presented at the Top Medical Trends 2008 Congress in Poznan 7-9 March 2008. The paper is in Polish with an English summary. The paper also appeared in the monthly medical journal "Przewodnik Lekarza" (Physician's Guide) 2008;1(103) Feb: 287-289.

eHealth Trends selected for the 2008 IMIA Yearbok of Medical Informatics
The first joint article, Andreassen et al (2007): European citizens' use of eHealth services: A study of seven countries, has been selected for publication in the2008 IMIA Yearbok of Medical Informatics. This will be the 17th IMIA yearbook. The 2008 edition will appear in May 2008 and will be made available to over 20,000 members of the health and biomedical scientific community.
eHealth 2008 conference 'eHealth without frontiers'
The project was presented on the eHealth 2008 high level conference 'eHealth without Frontiers' in Portoroz, Slovenia. The session 'Patient centredness and health professionals' took place on Wednesday 7 May and was chaired by Mr Artur Furtado, DG Sanco.

Wangberg et al: Relations between Internet use, socio-economic status (SES), social support and subjective health
The study aimed to explore relations between Internet use, socio-economic status (SES), social support and subjective health. Participants were from representative samples between 15 and 80 years of age from seven different European countries. Two different survey datasets were used: (i) eHealth trends (eHT; N = 7934) and (ii) the European social survey (ESS2; N = 11248). Internet users who had used the Internet for health purposes were compared with Internet users who had not used it for health purposes. Internet use was also found to be a plausible mediator between SES and subjective health, especially through interacting with social support. eHealth Trends Germany 2005: Paper published
The paper ' Use and Perception of Internet for health related purposes in Germany: results of a national survey' has been published in the International Journal of Public Health, Vol 52, number 5, October 2007eHealth trends across Europe 2005-2007

The report presents the results from the 2007 eHealth Trends survey. The number of Internet health users increased from 44 % in 2005 to 54 % in 2007. The growth in the use of Internet for health purposes is found in all seven countries participating in the survey. The use of the Internet for health purposes is increasing in Europe. The project is co-funded by the Program of Community action in the field of Public Health (2003-2008) of the Health and Consumer Protection Directorate-General of the European Commission.

Pressbriefing eHealth Trends 2005-2007
During the open session of the 4th eHealth Trends workshop in Aveiro, Portugal, an overview of the project results was presented. The use of the Internet for health purposes is increasing in all countries included in the study. There is a digital divide in Europe: Internet use is more frequent in northern and central Europe, followed by eastern and southern Europe respectively. The digital divide is influencing the use of e-health Health related use of the Internet: The divide seems to be diminishing as relative growth in e-health is larger in southern Europe. European citizens' use of E-health services: A study of seven countries
The international study was published on 10 April. The Internet is used more for health purposes in the northern European countries (74 % of Internet users), followed by the eastern (72 %) and southern European countries (60 %). Plans for the next European survey
The second and last survey of the project will start on 16 April this year and last for two weeks. The same questions will be asked to a total of 1000 respondents in each country on their use of the Internet for health purposes.Health-related use of the Internet in the Norwegian population
The paper from Norway on health related use of the Internet was published in The Journal of the Norwegian Medical Association. Norwegians use of the Internet for health purposes continues to grow. 58 % of those asked had used the Internet for health purposes. Being female, young and having a white-collar occupation were positively correlated to the use of Internet for health purposes. This increase in use is not reflected in a concomitant increase in the number of those considering Internet to be an important source of health information. The third e-health Trends workshop took place in Wroclaw, Poland, on January 29-30 2007. The major topics were to summarize and discuss the results from the 1st survey which was conducted in 2005, and to plan the 2nd survey which is scheduled for April 2007. The first part was open to the public.

Status of the project after the first year
After the first year, the eHealth Trends project is running as planned. The results of the surveys support the trends we find across Europe with people using the Internet for health along with other means of communication. As the papers are in the evaluation phase of the journals, the results have not yet been published in full.Read more
Danish-Norwegian Workshop on eHealth Consumer Trends
In connection with the TTeC2006 Conference, the Danish and Norwegian partners organized a joint workshop to present similarities and differences in the results from the Danish and Norwegian population. The aim of the workshop was to discuss future actions, the content of the survey and its implications with the key stake holders: policy-makers, health care authorities, researchers and users. eHealth Trends project presentation
The project was presented at the ‘eHealth 2006 High Level Conference and Exhibition’ in Malaga, Spain, 10-12 May 2006. National Translation Workshops completed
The questionnaire for the eHealth Trends project has been developed jointly by the project participants. As it is developed in English, the questions have been translated into the national languages using a dual focus method ("translation for meaning").
